Bell iPulse LED Bike Torch Reviews
29 of 30 people found the following review helpful Very good light, By Peter (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bell iPulse LED Bike Torch (Sports) This bike light is (somewhat surprisingly, given the price) the best I've used. I've been using the previous version (identical, but a nice silver color instead of black) for several years now, and the new black one for a few weeks. I bike a few thousand miles every year, and I've gone through at least a dozen different lights, so this is based on substantial experience.1) It's never fallen off my bike. This may seem like an unusual claim to make, but most mounting mechanisms will work loose with enough vibration and bumps. I ride a lot. Not falling off is not unheard of, but it is rare. 2) It provides enough light to see by. It's not ultrabright, but it is bright enough. 3) It provides a wide angle of view. Most of the ultrabright lights do it by working like a spotlight. You're only visible from a narrow segment of the road, and you only light up a narrow segment (hello, Blackburn lights costing 2-3x more). This one has very nice optics, where... I now own three. I use two mounted on one bike in a main beam & dip set up. With one beam set slightly above the other they really light your way in total darkness. When street lights are about I use the high beam in flash mode and the dip in steady mode. You can buy two of these far cheaper than one cateye, blackburn etc and most of the 'better make' lights all seem to use a very narrow spotlight beam that is no good in total darkness. The batteries seem to last for ages. Great buy 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful initial impression, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Bell iPulse LED Bike Torch (Sports) Just received it and I think it will be fine for my needs. The beam is bright for 20-30 feet and the flashing LED's will be very visible to drivers. It's very light but the switch seems solid and there's a rubber ring that will hopefully provide a good seal for the battery compartment. The mount seems solid enough and I have it mounted where my handlebars are roughly 20mm in diameter which is about as wide as it would go. Because I mounted it next to another light I had to put it on at somewhat of an angle. Luckily they built an adjustment onto the rear of the mount so you can change the angle of the top of the mount which holds the light. My reason for 4 stars is that there is nothing in the instructions about this important feature. You need to take out the top screw and then the back of the mount can be adjusted to compensate for mounting at an angle. All in all a decent light that feels like it will be fine for both safety flashing and lighting the trail. |
